PERFORMA
The factors that played the main part for choosing the KBA Performa 74 were the generous fittings and favourable price
Mr. Marek Urban, the company owner and Director of the BAAD, Sp .z.o.o. offset printshop from Nowy Szac, gives in the following article the details and reasons behind the purchase of the KBA Performa 74 in the interview with Adam Slazynski from KBA-Grafitec.
Can you introduce your company to us in a couple of sentences?
The BAAD printshop was founded in 1991. In the early years of its existence it provided services for local customers through the offset printing method. In 1996 the decision was made to purchase the flexography printing machine which allowed us to extend our customer base and offer our products to the domestic market. Since then the company income has kept increasing. While receiving new orders, further investment was made into machinery and infrastructure. At this moment in time, we have at our disposal printing machines of the new generation and laminating machines which are produced by German and French companies who hold the leading position in the world in regards to the production of industrial machinery and equipment. Our company also operates our own graphic studio, employing computer graphics which allow for the complete and fast implementation, along with the modification of, even the most complicated customer requirements. Our company currently takes the key position on the Polish market in between companies which produce soft packaging. Our customers are well known and in the Polish market are well respected companies from many areas of business. This is proof of the trust in the quality of our products, confirmed by many awards gained in competitions targeting flexography printing quality that took place during both domestic and international exhibitions.

The KBA Performa machine is no different from other competing machines when it comes to fittings and the solutions used, however its price is definitely better.
What led you to choose the KBA Performa74 machine?
The decision to buy the four-colour sheet-fed offset machine of the half-size format was made at the owners meeting of the BAAD printshop in January 2005. At the same time preparation began regarding the request for co-funding of this investment from the European Union within the SPO WKP 2.3. programme. We put our request forward in February 2005. After successful evaluation of the request from the formal aspect, the selection of the machine supplier began. The group of possible suppliers consisted of all European suppliers of the sheet-fed offset machines of the half-size format, i.e. Heidelberg, Man Roland, Adast, KBA (Rapida), Grafitec with the Prestige machine and two Japanese machine suppliers - Shinohara and Komori. In May 2005 the new design of the KBA Performa machine was presented during the graphic art industry exhibition, Embax Print 2005 in Brno. We had a chance to carefully study this machine during its operation. It was equipped with all the technical and electronic properties that we required. Our evaluation was positive. We also attended presentations for the other remaining machines. After processing the results of the tender, we decided that the new machine supplier would be KBA-Grafitec. The decision to choose this machine was driven by the generous fittings (CIP-4 system) and favourable price.
If you could compare the KBA Performa machine with its equivalent competing machines, what would be your comments?
The KBA-Performa is fully operated by computer and is fitted with the CIP-4 system which will become a standard solution in the near future. We have chosen this machine because our opinion is that such technical solutions make the realization of the customer’s requirements faster and the machine setting and high quality of print easier. The KBA Performa machine is no different from other competing machines when it comes to fittings and the solutions used, however its price is definitely better.
What orders are processed on the KBA Performa machine?
We process all customer orders. This can be labels, cardboard packaging, posters, advertising catalogues, albums, advertising prints or flyers in the grammage range from 70 to 350 g – on various types of paper, on cardboard with or without coating.
How would you evaluate the KBA Grafitec service?
The installation and introductory training on the KBA Performa machines attended by the production company specialists proceeded well which allowed us to start the production almost immediately. Direct servicing of the machine is in the hands of the authorized Polish company so we did not have any problems such as waiting for small repairs which accrued during installation.
